Cayman R Test Drive

Thanks to my friend JJ for lending me his Cayman R to drive it in a track..
This car made it to be :

Having in mind that the car was against so many great machines like :

Why is it so great ?

Lets go..

Engine : 
3.4 L
335 Bhp
Mid engine
Rear wheel drive


The Car is 60 to 100 KG lighter than the regular Cayman S.
Why is from 60 to 100 ?
Because although this is a light car, you can still choose the seats, rims and so many other customization based on your own taste.



This car is not the fastest in a straight line, but sure can get behind faster cars in any corner because of the way it handles. And I mean cars that are really faster!!



Mid engine gives you another feeling of handling.. just steer and the car will go directly there.. at any speed.



The difference of horsepower between the Cayman R ans the S will not give you any new feeling, but the PDK transmission allows faster downshifts.

Have in mind that the car comes with stiffer suspensions and dampers, but this is no ooooh my back hurts!!
I drove the car from Kuwait to Bahrain at the speed and it was completely fine! I Mean its a Porsche! 



If you drove the Cayman S, It is already a great car. drive the R and you'll know it is greater..
The Cayman S is a guy with a Bachelor Degree..
The Cayman R is a guy with a Masters Degree.. and two years of experience..

Hit the apex, full throttle, and the LSD works really fine. not sudden turbo boost or ultra power oversteer at all.


All in all, this is a great car to drive, and to spend a weekend in a track. 
The weight saving did not soil the feeling of a daily car. 
The stiffened suspension and dampers is not as hard as the GT3 RS.
You can still opt for the Sat-Nav and Aircon..
Yes it is a little bit more expensive the Cayman S. But around 7000 KD cheaper then the standard 911.





PDK works fine combined with a great mid engine. 



Down shifting is faster..



Ask for this option, and you'll end up with no friends..





Light weight seats.. hugging and comfy in my 440 km trip..

  1. The Cayman R is definitely one Porsche I would love to toss around! Would prefer a manual gearbox though.
