Test Drive : Ferrari Italia 458

So after the first post about things you should know about the Ferrari 458 Italia..
I'll go deeply on the car drives around the city and highways using he different Manettino settings.

I started with the car around 9 am in the morning.. after I met Ghita PR Manager at Ferrari.. to give me a briefe about features and information I need to know.

I started off my day by dropping my friend off to some place, then went looking for GoPro accessories. moving from one place to another, highways.. city and heavy traffic. I used the Ferrari as a daily car for a day which was not part of the test, but I was amazed by how easy you can drive the car in "Sport" Setting everyday.

Calm, comfy blue leather seats and the gear performs very amazing in both Auto or even if you want to use the paddles.

Got my GoPro accessories, mounted it on the Ferrari, and went to pick up another Emirati friend to guide me through nice places for photography and do some runs in a very secure environment.

First we wend to Nad Al-Sheba for photography, then we headed to some highway cruising.

In "Sport" Setting : You drive really smooth, gear changes are seamless and you cant feel any. exhaust is loud only when you're speeding and your RPM is 3000+

In "Race" and "CT OFF" the exhaust is louder and you can notice that the moment you change the setting. which is cool for my own taste.. I love it! I mean that's why people buy a Ferrari.

But if you're travelling for more than 45 minutes, you better switch back to "Sport"

Well, unlike the FF, this one is screaming out loud to everyone "I AM A FERRARI" because of the low profile look and sound.

And although I was sitting in a very good position.. mirrors are ok. visibility was not an issue at all, you still are able to find all the corners of the car and turn easily.

Rear view mirror is smaller but still better than so many other rear engine cars i've drivin. AND!!! You get to see those two read engine covers <3 p="p">

So, our next stop.. One of the major workshops of the biggest construction companies in UAE. Why would someone take a Ferrari 458 Italia.. to a construction site where they have workshops?

First of all.. This is like taking Jessica Alba to a party in the Amazon jungle!

The whole idea was to see how would this car drive on dirt and non-paved tarmac and ful of holes and mini canyons !

Just set the suspension setting to "bumpy road" and you'll be fine! Well, not Phantom fine.. but for a car that can lap Fiorano faster than an Enzo.. this is great.

The look of the Ferrari between all of those machine was one of the greatest contrasts in every mean.

The car is very low, yet getting in and out is not as hard as it seems compared to other cars.
I didn't drive the car yet in summer, but on the testing day, temperatures in Dubai reached 35C but AC was very cool in low.

Compared to the F430, Thats a huge jump for Ferrari.. in terms of design, horsepower and they way it behaves..

This is a more powerful, sophisticated, elegant and more sporty!
No side vents to cool off the engine like in the 348, 355, 360 or the 430.. They all go beneath the car! another great design from Peninfarina!

Double clutch transmission to be smooth around city.
Kick you in the brain, not in the back every time you change up in "Race"
And the fact that this car, like every other Ferrari comes with a 7 years warranty! brave huh!

So I am sorry for you if you just bought a 2nd hand F430 or 360.
You're lucky though if you have a 355 cuz it is becoming a classic and everyone love the sound of that machine.

But.. If you have a F430 Scuderia.. You might think twice before driving the 458.. Why?
Because they both can lap the Fiorano track doing 1:25sec! That's the same time as the mighty Enzo!

So, Ladies and gentlemen I have driven a car that go as fast as the Enzo around a track.. But not allowed to take it to a track! That's like telling Batman.. "Hey Batman.. guess what? you're able to drive the batmobile anymore.. Use a taxi"

Once you compare it to there giant machines, it looks very tiny.
But it looks wide compared to normal street cars.
But once you're holding the steering wheel in the right way,
Sitting in the correct postion,
Elbows bended,
Visibility is cool, and you know exactly where yo're going.. feels more confident that you might kill yourself if only you're an idiot..  cuz the car is so smart.

Another V8..

You know the "Heart Of The Ocean" the necklace that Rose from Titanic threw in the ocean?
This is it..

Font end got this hump that looks like a fin, to drag air away, adding more downforce at high speeds and less turbulence around the front tires.

Tires pushed to the corners of the car, making all the weight sits right in between and ensuring low center of gravity!

Many of you might know that I hate the Nissan GTR!
Why? Because of all the electronic kits that ruin the pleasure of driving.. And here you ask yourself again..

Does the Ferrari use as much electronics and systems to prevent you from killing yourself or ruin your overall driving experience?

The answer is "NO"

The electronics are fully adjustable, and it sounds like a sports car.. No! Like a Ferrari..
And Its not another Playstation with G-Force, or a Simulator.

I told you earlier about the aerodynamics.. Now all the air goes underneath, pushed in control through the back with the rear diffuser without lifting the car at all..

Clean cuts from the side, air vents goes down cooling the exhaust and parts of the engine.

You can see here the hidden in black, air ducts that goes directly to the engine bay. without causing drag! like in the front small air duct in the Corvette Z06 for example.. they cause drag that may effect the top speed by a -1.2 mph.

This one on the other hand may add up to 5 bhp to the 330kmh Ferrari.

And the two other air ducts in the backend work as coolers for the clutch and gearbox. and increase downforce yet no drag since the air goes out again! Smart!!

Front Fins.. or moustache. not glued in the far end, and freely reacts to highspeed as it go dowm up to an inche to direct more air beneath the car, creating more downforce.

Red this carefully :  SERIOUS RUBBER HAS BEEN LEFT ON THE TARMAC AND G-FORCES WERE FELT HOWEVER NO CARS AND NO STIGS HAVE BEEN HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS VIDEO. One final note :
Car was tested up 330km/h and was stable at high speeds..
If you're wondering.. Yes I have done 330km/h in few other cars that are capable of doing that.

And in Launch control, If you have the proper tire temprature, yes, You do at least 3.5 or 3.6 seconds in 0-100 test.

Dont try this at home.

Many Thanks to Al-Zayyani, and Ferrari Dubai for the opportunity
Special Thanks to Amr And Ghita from Ferrari for making this an easy trip and a joyful ride.
